Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi completed his master degree in Cardiology in 1987 from former USSR. He did his interventional cardiology training in Czech Republic and London, UK in the year 2001. He is also the fellow of American College of Cardiology and has served 30 years as a senior consultant cardiologist under the ministry of health and also the professor and head of cardiology at the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bir Hospital. Currently he is the head of Cardiology at Star Hospital and holds the position of program director/general secretary of Nepal Heart Foundation, and President of Nepal NCD alliance.
His field of interest is preventive medicine and has put tremendous efforts in advocacy, awareness and training in Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) and Non communicable diseases. He has served as the National President of Nepal Heart foundation and also the Executive director of the Nepal RHD Control program which was a joint program of the Government of Nepal and Nepal Heart Foundation since the year 2007 till 2014. He has also served as the chairman of the Nepal Heart Network (working network of 17 heart related organizations)
Under the umbrella of Nepal heart foundation, RHD prevention and control program, he has been engaged in the heart screening of school children for last 25 years. Till date has completed heart screening of more than 100,000 children in more than 30 districts of Nepal.
He also has been continuously involved in training programs on Heart disease prevention, NCDs and RHD. The target people are Physicians, health professionals, teachers, Female community health volunteers, mothers groups and students. Has trained more than 500 heart disease prevention volunteers in more than 20 districts of Nepal. He is involved as a coordinator and trainer for TOT programs under Nepal heart foundation
Dr Regmi has worked for RHD prevention as a team leader with several international partners such as Australian Aid, Medtronic Philanthropy, Edwards Lifesciences Foundation and Rotary International.
With World heart federation Dr Regmi has been involved in several RHD related activities like RHD expert group, TIPS handbook preparation, Ground miles challenge goal project etc. DR Regmi was recognized as Heart Hero 2019 by the world heart federation.
Dr Regmi is the author of several research articles on RHD published in international scientific journal. He is also the author of more than 12 books on health and related fields. He is a regular writer in national health journal.
